Child care jobs are a necessary component to today’s economy. With many single parent families and traditional units having to work two and three jobs to support households, children that are pre-school and school aged need to be cared for during business houses. Jobs in child care can be found within daycare franchises and corporate facilities, but a large portion of child care employment is done through an independent contractor or individual basis.

There are varying degrees of childcare jobs, including on-demand babysitters, who are generally teenage or college age kids that stay with a child for a limited amount of time, nanny jobs that require hands on childcare, and standard childcare that can occur during business hours, on nights and weekends. Jobs in child care can be obtained through placement companies, schools, colleges, word-of-mouth or via employment classifieds. These days, childcare employment standards generally require special licensing like emergency certification.

Often full-time, nanny jobs require more than just ensuring for the safety and well-being of the child. The typical nanny job has a hand in raising the child, assisting the parents with grooming, feeding, schedule setting and in some cases, schooling. Depending on the length of time the nanny is needed, the position often times includes room and board within the household. It is also common for a nanny to work seasonally, over the summer and other holidays when the child is out of school but the parents are working, or for parents to bring the nanny on vacation to care for the children.
