Carpentry Jobs

Carpentry jobs operate in regard to building codes when creating a layout or blueprint that is intended to be built. Then, using different power tools they shape wood according to the layout so that it may be joined together with other pieces. Structures that are already put together have an easier assembly time and are not as complex but jobs in carpentry that require custom installation will be more costly. Carpentry work can also be dangerous due to the nature of the work and the frequently bending, stretching, and standing that comes with it.

The minimum education necessary for a carpenter job is usually close to 4 years of formal coursework and informal instruction to become a capable, skilled carpenter. A trade school, vocational school, or community college offers training that can assist with prospective carpenters, but formal apprenticeships offer classroom and on the job training that last at least 3 years to hone skills.

In 2006 there were 1.5 million carpenters employed making this the largest building trades profession. A large percentage of workers were employed in the construction industry with a smaller amount working for trade contractors. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, a 10 percent increase is projected during 2006 to 2016 for carpentry employment. This increase will be close to the national average for all occupations and result from the increases in construction and modernization. Workers with the most skills and experience will have the best opportunities for carpentry jobs although job openings will vary by geographic area.
