Engineering Jobs

The field of engineering is the meeting of scientific theories with the everyday usage of those theories into practical application. Engineering jobs can run the gamut from industrial engineer jobs, a study in efficiency when it comes to manufacturing products, to chemical engineer jobs, the chemical processes of food, clothing, electronics and other materials, to mechanical engineer jobs, an overarching specialty that includes work on refrigeration, electric generators, robots and more.

The largest engineer employment discipline, and one of the oldest, is that of civil engineering. Civil engineer jobs include the planning and implementing of construction, whether it’s buildings, roads, sewage systems or tunnels. Generally, civil engineering jobs are landed by engineers with a specialty in construction, water resources or geotechnical engineering, and can include research and teaching, in addition to the design and construction of a project.

Electrical engineer jobs are also plentiful, and incorporate the design and implementation of electrical equipment. This can include facility wiring, power generation, navigation systems, transmission devices and more. Electrical engineering jobs generally specialize in the generation of power, whereas electronics engineering positions work within signal processing and the actual power supply systems.

Engineer jobs generally require at least a bachelor’s, preferably with an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), Inc. accredited degree within a specific field of study. Master’s degrees are also looked favorably upon. In addition, a professional engineers (PE) license is required on a state-by-state basis after completion of the degree, at least four years of work experience, and completing the state exam.
