Landscape Architect Jobs

Landscape architect jobs are responsible for designing the location of buildings, roads, and walkways so that they are compatible with the environment, including planning the location and arrangement of shrubs, flowers, and trees. They also must plan and design the restoration of spaces that may have been disturbed by construction. Working in many different types of establishments, landscape architect careers are involved from the beginning of the development process. Many times they collaborate with surveyors, architects, engineers, and other landscape architects to analyze the site historically, address the needs and conditions of the client, before submitting the final design for approval.

The minimum educational requirement for landscape architect jobs is at least a bachelor's degree from a college or university. A Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (BLA) and a Bachelor of Science in landscape Architecture (BSLA) are two degree options for undergraduates. The Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) can be attained by individuals with undergraduate degrees in landscape architecture can earn their MLA in two years. As of 2008 49 States require landscape architects to be licensed based on the Landscape Architect Registration Examination (L.A.R.E.).

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, projects that there will be a 16 percent increase in landscape architect employment during the 2006 to 2016 decade. This increase in employment will be due to the need for landscape architects for the planning and development for new construction to meet the needs of a growing population. Job opportunities will vary by location but should be excellent for qualified professionals.
