Employee relations jobs involve a specific branch of the human resources department. These workers deal specifically with company policies and procedures and often times include handling employee disputes or arbitrations. Employee relations careers are very specialized and generally require that the worker conduct themselves with a high level of integrity. An employee relations job should only be entered into by someone who is capable using fair judgment while performing their job. These workers act as referees or umpires for the company and must not be easily biased. It is their job to investigate and resolve grievances filed by the company and/or its employees. These workers should also be abreast of employment laws and any changes that may impact their company.

Employee relations jobs are generally located in office environments. These workers will typically have private offices or access to private rooms in order to conduct their duties. In most cases, these workers have a full time 40 hours per week work schedule during normal business hours. They will often have to use computers, office equipment, and the telephone, so before entering into an employee relations career, one should be comfortable with these kinds of equipment.

Generally, a 4 year college degree in human resources or a related field is necessary to obtain this kind of employment. Advanced degrees should be sought when trying to further advance one's career.
