Network Administrator Jobs

Network jobs involve creating, installing, and supporting their company's computer systems. They are solely responsible for the operation and maintenance of their company's local-area network, wide-area network, network segments, and Internet and intranet systems. In addition, network work involves the maintenance of their company's hardware and software. These workers must be able to analyze their company's needs and then select and evaluate system and network requirements. Many networking jobs entail developing and maintaining network security measures.

Network jobs are located in pleasant office or laboratory environments. A network career is generally 40 hour per week positions; although, many employers will require their workers to be on call or work evenings and weekends depending on business needs. Often networking jobs require that the worker work closely with other employees of a company to resolve any issues they be experiencing with the company's computer systems. Some network administrator jobs can be conducted offsite or on a telecommute basis.

Before considering network jobs, one must ensure that they have strong analytical and problem solving skills. In addition, the job requires a great deal of communicating and working with other employees within the organization, so one should be effective in their communication style. Some type of formal college education in computer science or information technology is generally required to obtain network jobs. Certification and previous technical experience are necessary for obtaining employment with most companies. Advancement with a network career occurs after achieving experience and expertise within the field.
