Food Runners Jobs

Food runner jobs assist the server staff by handling the distribution of the different orders from the kitchen to the appropriate tables in restaurants. There are a number of other supplementary duties that are handled by these workers such as cleaning up the kitchen, mopping floors, and transporting dishes from the storage areas to different areas in the kitchen. The majority of workers with food runner jobs often work part time schedules and evening, night, and weekend shifts.

The minimum educational and training requirements for these positions are at least some high school coursework as the majority of food runners are training through more experienced workers, managers, or supervisors. The size of the restaurant will vary the amount of supplementary duties handled by individuals with food runner jobs. Prospective job seekers should have flexible schedules, have an attention to detail, and experience in a fast paced work environment since they will be on call for when restaurants become overly busy.

In 2006, there were 7.4 million food and beverage and related services workers employed. According to data from The Bureau of Labor Statistics, there is a projected increase in employment of 13 percent for food and beverage and related services that will occur in the 2006 to 2016 decade. This rate will be attributed to the increased popularity of dining and its convenience. Additional opportunities for food runner jobs will come from the need to replace workers that change to different careers or opt to exit the work force entirely.
