The PPG Circleville, Ohio Plant is the company's center for resin production. Our sophisticated polymer resins are used in PPG paint-making plants from North America to China and are compounded into an assortment of finishes serving different markets, but primarily the automotive market.
The Project Engineer is primarily responsible for engineering, design and installation of projects in the Circleville Automotive Resin Production facility including ones involving electrical power distribution. This job is also responsible for maintaining the power distribution system and components (MCCs) within the facility. Projects include new installations and modifications to existing processes. This responsibility includes working closely with, and may supervise, other supervisors, operations and maintenance personnel, vendors, construction personnel, purchasing and safety to assure a high level of achievement in safety, quality and productivity. Other responsibilities include the development and institution of operating and training programs related to projects and the skill sets of maintenance and operations personnel. The incumbent assures that all applicable recognized and generally accepted codes and engineering practices, OSHA PSM, TS16949 and environmental permitting requirements are met.
The Project Engineer must be skilled in analyzing and providing solutions to a wide range of engineering problems throughout the Circleville facility. Working with operations and maintenance personnel in both the Resin and Energy Recovery Unit areas, the Project Engineer will concentrate on providing range of balanced solutions for new and existing systems that are easy to maintain and operate. To achieve these goals, the incumbent must be able to lead a diverse team of individuals to a workable consensus. Assistance in diagnosis of operational problems and maintenance troubleshooting is also required.
In the process of developing project plans, the Project Engineer must be able to conceptualize systems and clearly communicate these plans to technical and non-technical personnel. He/She must be able to develop scope documents, obtain engineering and construction bids, oversee construction, schedule and coordinate major plant outages and assist in the start-up operation of projects. Develop projects from conception to full operation. Develop project budgets, schedules and complete the project within the constraints of both. The Project Engineer must be able to track project spending, effectively communicate spending trends to the appropriate people in the organization, and make adjustments throughout the project to stay within authorization amounts.
Experience and Education
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree required with preference of electrical engineering. Other bachelors degrees in engineering with relevant experience will also be considered.
- Five or more years of engineering experience, preferably in resin or chemical manufacturing
- Excellent human relations skills and some labor relations knowledge
- Outstanding skill in communicating plans to technical & non-technical personnel
- Must understand accounting principles
- Must possess excellent problem solving skills and must be able to conceptualize systems
Functional and Technical Skills
Candidate needs a sound working knowledge for the maintenance and engineering of electrical power distribution systems and equipment, programmable logic controllers (Allen Bradley), Ethernet protocols, and multidiscipline engineering projects.
Candidates should possess sound organizational, interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of management, multiple disciplines of engineering, and production personnel while coordinating project implementations and complying local and national standards and policies.
Candidates need: prominent skills in organization and planning; fluent computer skills with Microsoft products and AutoCAD; analytical and problem solving skills in programmable logic controllers; and can read & develop P&IDs and single line diagrams.
