3 East is a 34-bed telemetry unit that specializes in the care of patients with a wide range of cardiac diseases that require acute monitoring. The staff on this unit has extensive education in the care and monitoring of these patients, as well as in administering a wide range of cardiac medications. Many of these patients present with a wide range of other system disorders such as GI and Pulmonary and are either admitted via the Emergency Department or transferred when the need for cardiac monitoring is determined. The staff on this unit includes Telemetry technicians who not only monitor the 3 East patients, but also are responsible for those patients on remote monitoring. An extensive new state of the art telemetry system has been implemented this month.
The role of the telemetry nurse (Tele RN) is to provide care for patients by comfortably connecting them to machines that measure blood pressure, heart rate, breathing rate, blood-oxygen level, and electrocardiogram information. The tele RN also monitors and interprets this data, assessing any potential health problems and needs, while also developing nursing care plans and maintaining accurate medical records. A telemetry nurse typically works in hospitals or other clinical environments.
