Our Professional Practice Model is the foundation for our commitment to patients and their families - and the nurses, caring for them. This model integrates relationship-centered care, extraordinary clinical leadership and interdisciplinary collaboration. Our model of relationship-centered care recognizes that nurses are the professionals responsible for assessing, planning, and coordinating patient care. Nurses articulate their care through their relationships with parents and families; members of the health care team, the community and with self, promoting self-care as well.
The role of the neonatal intensive care nurse (NICU nurse) is to provide direct and specialized care for newborns needing close monitoring due to premature birth, birth defects, infection, or other medical conditions requiring surgery or therapy. Working in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) with doctors and other healthcare professionals, the NICU RNs assist in developing and implementing a plan of care for high-risk newborns requiring high-technology care, including ventilators, incubators, or other special equipment or surgery.
