POSITION SUMMARY

The Operations Manager is responsible for the success of assigned functions within a complex Food Distribution Center environment to ensure that it is an outstanding place to work. The Operations Manager may be responsible for the supervision of one or more of the following: Inbound Operations (Unloading and Receiving), Warehouse Operations (Pick-Pack, Unbox), Outbound Operations (Loading), Transportation Operations and Office Operations (e.g., Transportation Coordinators, Customer Service Employees, and General Office Employees). The Operations Manager works with the Warehouse Manager to develop strategies and objectives to maximizing productivity and leverage expenses for the distribution center.  The operations Manager must analyze trends, solve problems and motivate and develop themselves and associates in order to maximize contribution to the DC success.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Assists GM with the evaluation of the effectiveness of and recommends alternatives for work methods, procedures, controls and staffing to achieve accurate and timely movement and processing of product; manage to ensure warehouse layout is optimally aligned for maximum efficiency as seasonality and inventory needs require.

  • Assists GM with the DC's financial, operational, people and process and service related objectives to drive continuous improvement and efficiency gains to reduce overall cost-to-serve; leads employees, and peers to anticipate and solve problems and plan for upcoming events, seasonal changes, etc.

     

  • Prepares budget, profit plans and capital requests as required. Evaluates metrics and adjusts activities to meet or exceed performance expectations

  • Ensures the efficient management of labor hours, travel, fuel and consumable supplies within budget and work schedules including extra work days and shifts as needed.

  • Manages the proper selection, purchase and utilization of Company assets in support of warehouse and transportation operations. Coordinates with other departments as necessary to ensure upgrades and repairs are completed efficiently and effectively.

  • Develops business relationships to ensure communication and efficient operations with third party vendors.

  • Develops efficiency ideas, cost reduction measures in waste management and assists with the implementation of changes within inbound and outbound warehouse and transportation operations.

  • Identifies problems and proposes solutions to other members of management and promotes cooperation with other departments.

  • Monitors effectiveness of daily routing activities to ensure all established Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and Sales/customer satisfaction goals are met.

  • Ensures the use of receiving, selection and loading software systems.

  • Maintains employee relations through regular department or pre-shift meetings; maintains on-going interaction; keeps open communication channels with employees by answering questions and explaining policies and procedures; monitors employee morale; and submits and responds to ideas to improve employee engagement and enablement.

  • Interprets trains and consistently enforces Company policies and procedures.

  • Coordinates efforts with Safety department to aid in training, conducting employee observations, conducting accident/incident investigations to determine root causes, and routine safety inspections.

  • Performs management functions of staff selection, development, discipline, performance reviews and/or terminations.

  • Performs the duties of employees supervised and other related duties as needed.

  • Complies with local, state and federal regulatory agencies (i.e. OSHA, AIB, FDA, USDA, etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years of direct Warehousing/ Food Distribution managemement  experience or relevant military experience overseeing an operation.

  • Relevant  Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain.

  • Functional system understanding in AS400, Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Project Manager

  • Ability to work non-traditional business hours including evenings, nights, weekends, holidays and on call. The employee may occasionally be required to travel to other Operating Companies or the corporate office as business needs dictate (i.e. training, business continuation, etc.)

  • Bilingual Spanish a plus
