The Senior Business Analyst (Sr. BA) works as a consultant to business and technical stakeholders in order to elicit, analyze, communicate and validate requirements for changes to business processes, policies, information and information systems. Viewed as integral to the business in any decisions that may be impacted by technology. Collaborating with both the information technology project teams and business clients, the Sr. BA collects, clarifies and translates business requirements into documentation and conceptual design, from which applications and solutions are developed.
Establishes collaborative relationship with both business and IS partners; Works with business leaders/Sr. Management and acts as a liaison between IS and business units (typically leadership for assigned business units) or vendors. Leads the gathering of business needs as well as the design of solutions through direct interaction with business unit leaders. Focuses on developing and improving business processes at all times, assists with the development of metrics, both within the technology and business organizations based on industry trends and best practices.
Works with both technical and business staff to implement solutions in a cost and time effective fashion. Applies a strategic approach towards information systems, business processes, the key drivers and measures of success for the business, and the short- and long-term direction of the business and technology. Identifies, proposes and influences business solutions, negotiates deliverables and requirements across multiple business customers or organizations. Provides thought leadership on an advisory basis to the business with respect to ACSC business processes / improvements, industry trends and best practices; Provides counsel and leadership on future use of technology and business process improvements to IS and Business Management. Communicates requirements to the IS technical team so that effective and innovative technical solutions may be designed; Communicates effectively with business staff and acts as the main point of contact between the business and I.S. project team members in the analysis of business process and development of multiple project documents on one or more concurrent projects; Analyzes complex problems, develops, proposes, and manages innovative solutions throughout the project life-cycle; Provides leadership in the evaluation of vendor package software as a potential solution to meet business requirements.
Performs gap-fit analysis with business requirements and provide recommendation as a result of the package evaluation process. Provides project support in accordance with the selected software development methodology. Assists Project Lead in project management activities, as appropriate. Leads the support of business units during the implementation of new systems or modifications to existing systems. Supports the Project Leader and/or Manager during all phases of the project life-cycle. May coordinate activities of other Business Analysts on the project. Work is creative and not routine. Receives only very general supervision; discusses or seeks approval on the most complex matters.
Four year college degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration or other related field or equivalent work experience. Typically 5 to 10 years of IT experience (or equivalent experience working as a business team member, on IT projects), 4 years experience in process engineering, and 2 years experience in project management.
Knowledge and experience in property / casualty insurance is preferred; High level of understanding of the organization's business systems and processes as well as industry wide requirements. Proven interpersonal skills working in a team environment, creating a motivation for high achievement. Demonstrated ability to conceptualize and communicate business imperatives to the project team and technical solutions to the business partners.
Must understand technical problems and solutions in relation to the current, as well as the future business environment. Must be able to recommend plans to integrate new and existing processes. Possesses knowledge and experience leveraging both IT solutions and business process improvements. Advanced verbal and written communications skills. Advanced ability to express complex technical concepts in terms non-technical people can understand.
