Casino jobs are becoming increasingly prevalent in cities and states outside of Las Vegas and Atlantic City. Casino employment positions include everything it takes to keep a casino running smoothly, from building maintenance to housekeeping to food and beverage services to gaming dealers. Casinos are part of the gaming service industry, which also includes lotteries, dog and horse racing, and other forms of legalized gambling.

A high profile casino job is that of a dealer of craps, blackjack or poker, among other well known chance games. Dealer jobs are generally best held by those with good customer service skills and a keen mind for the game. Poker dealer jobs oftentimes require a degree or certification, along with a strong knowledge of poker, inside and out. The dealer not only has to be quick at the draw, but also must be a good judge of skill in order to accurately call winners and losers.

Other gaming jobs that are more behind-the-scenes include slot tech jobs. These positions fall under the umbrella of vending and amusement machine repairs, and are generally higher paid within the casino atmosphere than elsewhere. This full-service position keeps the slot machines running at optimum efficiency and includes day-to-day maintenance, replacing worn parts, and keeping the machine balanced with the appropriate amount of money. It is very typical for these workers to come in on weekends and holidays, as well as overtime. There is also a union group for this segment of workers, called The International Brotherhood of Teamsters.
