Military Jobs

There are many military jobs available within the armed forces. Most military personnel live and work on or near military bases and facilities throughout the U.S. and the world. The military provides training and work experience for around 2.6 million people. Enlisted personnel, (84 percent of the Armed Forces) carry out the basic operations of the military in combat while the officers, (16 percent of Armed Forces) supervise and manage the functions in every military career.

The minimum educational and training requirements vary by the branch of service and between officers, which usually have a college degree, and enlisted personnel, that typically do not have college degrees. Meeting with a recruiter to have them choose the branch of the armed forces that you will have the best chances of being accepted is common. All branches of the armed forces generally require their candidates to have high school diplomas or their equivalent. After becoming enlisted, new members of the Armed Forces enter into "basic training" which lasts for 13 weeks.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, military employment will remain consistent. Opportunities for job seekers should be excellent for qualified individuals for all branches of the military through 2016. Many military personnel opt to retire with pension after 20 years of service so there will always be a need to replace workers. As military jobs continue to increase in complexity, the educational requirements will continue to be raised. Nearly all officer careers will require at least a bachelor's degree.
