Nurse practitioner jobs treat and educate the patients and public about different medical illnesses while providing additional support to family members. Keeping track of their patient's medical histories and symptoms, they can complete basic health diagnostics and evaluated the results. Furthermore, nurse practitioners can utilize medical instruments, administer medical treatment and medication, and assist with the patient's follow-ups and rehabilitation commitments. Family practice, adult practice, women's health, pediatrics, acute care, and geriatrics are common specialty areas for a nurse practitioner job.

Individuals that have either a diploma from an approved nursing program, an associate degree, or a bachelor's degree from an approved program will have a sufficient education to seek nurse practitioner careers. In 2006, there were 342 master's and post-master's programs offered for nurse practitioners. All States require proper licensing to become a nurse by passing a national licensing examination and graduate from an approved nursing program. Certification in a specialty is common and may be required in order to practice in some Sates.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, nurse practitioner employment is expected to increase by 23% from 2006 to 2016, which will be faster than the national average for all occupation. This demand for employment will be due to the advances in technology for patient care and an increasing emphasis on preventative care. Doctor's offices, hospital's, and other health care establishments will all see increases in employment in nurse practitioner jobs. Job prospects will be excellent for individuals seeking employment, especially for qualified persons with previous professional experience.
