This is ultimately a customer service position, so real estate agents generally work whenever the client needs them. Realtor jobs start out with the agent or broker researching properties to be sold. They then gain the listing and post it as a property for sale or rent. When a prospective client contacts them, they usually enter an exclusive agreement and show a series of properties according to price points, school districts, urban vs. rural settings and more.
When the perspective buyer decides on the property, the agent goes over the specifics of the contract closely and helps the buyer with routine inspections, including radon and termite. Agents may also act as a liaison with lawyers and loan officers as well. Once a property is sold, the real estate agent may earn a listing and property sales commission.
